How clean & natural is your ‘eco-friendly’ laundry detergent?
I’m a big believer in trying to use products in and around the home that are as natural and eco friendly as possible.
If you, like me, are looking for a way to make a switch to an earth-kind washing powder it can be a bit of a minefield out there! I think laundry powder/detergent can be one of the ‘forgotten’ products in trying to live more sustainably. Just think about it, your clothes are in contact with your skin (the body’s largest organ) all day and night. I confess that for many years I have really liked the smell of ‘fresh washing’ but……it is that very fragrance that (amongst numerous other ingredients) is filled with nasty ingredients which can be harmful to human health and to the planet. These ingredients are also running into our waterways everyday and having an impact on water quality and aquatic life.
I have tried many different products on the market, many of which claim to be ‘eco friendly’ when they were still made using nasty chemicals, some of which claim to be ‘plastic free’ and yet still have tiny plastic particles in the product, some offer refill schemes and yet still contain nasties.
